Look at the birds of the air. They don’t plant or gather crops. They don’t put away crops in storerooms. But your Father who is in heaven feeds them. Aren’t you worth much more than they are? (Matthew 6:26 NIRV)
I somehow arrived to church extra early this Sunday. I say somehow because I’m not usually extra early for anything. But because I was so early the earlier service hadn’t even let out yet. So, I just sat in the parking lot to kill time until it was over. But as I’m sitting there, I start admiring the beautiful sky that looked better than any painted canvas I had ever seen. The seagulls just gliding in the air effortlessly and peaceful, without a care in the world. Just squawking or squealing, whatever noise it was they were making, like they were enjoying life. Immediately the Holy Spirit brought to my remembrance the scripture in the book of Matthew, “Look at the birds of the air. They don’t plant or gather crops. They don’t put away crops in storerooms. But your Father who is in heaven feeds them. Aren’t you worth much more than they are?”
Honestly at this time, I have a couple things going on in my life that could cause me to start strutting down Worry Avenue and this morning those problems are at the forefront of my mind. But I believe God drew my attention to the birds flying around that parking lot to remind me not to worry about any of those things. So I made a decision to just stop worrying. I took cues from what He was trying to show me and I spoke His Word with faith. I said out loud, “God, if you take care of the little birds, who don’t even sow and reap, surely you will take care of me.” And as I began to let that confession sink deep down into my heart, it felt like a bag of boulders was taken off my back and the burden of carrying my problems was lifted. O’ what a great God we serve, that he would use one of His creations, the birds, to send a message of how much He loves me!
I challenge you today just as I’m challenging myself, LET GO OF WORRY! Drop that bag off at the sidewalk and let the garbage man pick it up. We don’t belong on Worry Avenue we have a God who loves us! So speak God’s Word with faith, over and over again if you have to, trust in God’s promises, and believe He will take care of you.
