Is God qualified to handle our problems?
I, without thinking, answer that question and say “Yes, He’s God. Of course He is!” But why? Why is God qualified to take care of my troubles, our troubles? If God had a resume’ what would make Him qualified to handle what seems to us like such a huge job?
If you’re thinking to yourself “how dare you question God?” I would like to say to you I truly am not but rather using this method to help us see our problems as they truly are, small. And see God for who He truly is and has proven over and over again; all-powerful, fully-qualified, willing and capable to handle this job.
If we look to scripture we can see what qualifies God. Here come the bullet points.
- He is the Great I AM. (Exodus 3:14-15) Have you ever wondered what God meant by this? I have. It wasn’t until I truly sought the LORD before I understood what He was saying. It perplexed me because it was like He said an unfinished statement, or so I thought. But how cool is God! He says everything He needs to say in two simple words. I AM. Everything that is good and perfect, (James 1:17) God is. He is our healer, counselor, supplier, friend, comfort, help, refuge, strength, hope, guide, sure foundation, peace…. the list goes on and on. Weak? He gives us strength (Ps 46:1). Lost? He is our guide (Ps 48:14). In need of help? He is our helper (Ps 33:20). Lack peace? He is our peace (Eph 2:14). Friendless? He is a friend to the friendless (John 15:14). Simply put, HE IS everything we need.
- He created EVERYTHING. Acts 17:24 says, “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is LORD of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands…..He gives to all life, breath, and all things.” His greatness is continued to be described in Isaiah 40:22 (NKJV), “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.” When I read that my mind tries to picture God stretching out what I picture the heavens to look like like we would stretch a laffy taffy bar. It’s unfathomable! Psalm 104:2 (NIV), “He makes the clouds His chariot and rides on the wings of the wind.”
Qualified? Yea, I think we’ve proven that with just the first bullet point. But boy does that put things into perspective when we look at our problems. God, the God who is everything, made everything, and controls everything is more than qualified to handle every problem we have or will have. He’s even honest with us and tells us we will have problems but Jesus offers us some encouragement in John 16:33 (NIV), “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
O’ how that warms my heart to know that although we have problems and struggles we can go to the One who has already overcome them all for us. What good news!
So be encouraged friends and don’t let your problems dictate who God is and make you question if He cares or is qualified to handle them. Meditate on His Word and let His Word tell you exactly who He is and what He’s capable of. Because He’s not just qualified but He is MORE than qualified to handle them all.
